“On behalf of the Joint Executive Board and our member congregations and institutes, we wish to unite our voices with the whole nation in mourning the passing away of Former President Benigno S. Aquino III,” the group said in a statement dated June 24.

“Many of us, religious and consecrated persons, will treasure not only the friendship that we had with President Aquino and his family, but also our mutual esteem for one another, borne out of our common goal of strengthening democracy and uplifting those in the fringes of Philippine society,” added AMRSP.

The group recalled how Aquino often acknowledged the important contributions of consecrated men and women in keeping the flame of democracy alive, especially during the martial law.

The group said they also remember with appreciation the opportunities for dialogue and collaboration that the Association, and as individual congregations and consecrated persons, had with him and his administration on many key social issues.

AMRSP offered their condolences to the Aquino sisters and to the former chief executive’s former colleagues and friends.

“We take comfort knowing that as President Aquino has put his faith in the Lord, he too, shall rise with him in the glory of the Resurrection,” the group said.

“We continue to offer our prayers for the repose of the soul of President Aquino and for our nation. May we all remain firm in our commitment to building God’s kingdom in our society,” added AMRSP.

Aquino died Thursday, June 24. He was 61.
