CIW in Mandaluyong City frees 6 prisoners

The Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City released last June 18 six persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), two of them had been acquitted of their criminal charges.

“On the directives of Undersecretary Gerald Q. Bantag, Director General, Bureau of Corrections, CTSSupt. Virginia S. Mangawit signed the Certificates of Discharge for six individuals who had been deprived of their liberty and were released from this facility on June 18, 2021,” the CIW said in a statement

“Two (2) offenders were acquitted, and with Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA), the maximum sentence for the others has already been served,” it said.

It also said that those freed were provided transportation allowance for their trip to their families and underwent testing for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

It noted that the “External Affairs Section (EAS) prepared an endorsement letter for work or livelihood opportunities for them.”

From last June 1 to 15, a total of 43 PDLS has been released from the CIW, it added.
