Town dad nabbed in drug sting

TACLOBAN CITY – A 67-year-old municipal councilor in San Miguel, Leyte was nabbed in an anti-illegal drug operation here Monday afternoon (June 21).

The suspect was identified as Almar Balais, Sangguniang Bayan member of San Miguel, Leyte, and a resident of Brgy. 109-A, V&G Subdivision.He is listed as a high-value individual (HVI target) of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The joint posse of the Leyte Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Kananga Municipal Police Station, 802nd Army Infantry Brigade, and PDEA-8 conducted the anti-illegal drug operation, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

A police officer who acted as a poseur buyer was able to buy from the suspect a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet of suspected shabu.

They were also able to buy two medium-sized plastic sachets of suspected shabu worth P40,800.

The suspect, together with the pieces of evidence was brought to PDEA-8 for chemical analysis.
