Globe's 5G network now covers 88% of NCR

Globe Telecom Inc. now covers at least 88 percent of the National Capital Region, the telco Monday, (June 21) reported.

Bonifacio Global City Central Business District (CBD) and Ortigas CBD registered the highest 5G outdoor coverage, both at 97 percent.

Makati CBD is third, with 96 percent coverage while Pateros is fourth with 92 percent coverage.

Globe’s 5G network is also available in at least 82 percent or more in 13 cities in Metro Manila.

Furthermore, the telco's 5G service is now accessible in 81 percent of Cebu City; 68 percent of Boracay Island; 67 percent of Bacolod City and 53 percent of Iloilo City.

In Mindanao, 5G is currently available in 73 percent of Davao City and 72 percent of Cagayan De Oro City.

In General Santos, the telco is installing six additional 5G cell towers.

Significantly, Globe's 5G network is the 'most available' to customers on 5G capable devices in the first quarter of 2021 according to Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data.

This metric represents the proportion of users on 5G-capable devices who spend the majority of their time on a 5G network.

The Ookla data underscores the telco’s expanding 5G coverage, making it possible for customers to latch on to Globe’s 5G network much longer than competition.

“We expect more installations of 5G cell sites for the remaining six months of the year as the demand for 5G technology will continue to rise even further,” says Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, Globe Chief Commercial Officer.

5G is the latest wireless internet connectivity that promises faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and more stable internet connections compared to 4G.

“We are happy that more customers are now adopting 5G technology so they can experience its advantages and benefits, especially in this pandemic," she explained.

Globe was the pioneer in 5G technology in the Philippines, being the first mobile operator in Southeast Asia to commercially launch 5G AirFiber for Home use in 2019.

Globe’s aggressive network builds and network modernization to 4G LTE and 5G has resulted in improved services to its customers nationwide.
