ILOILO CITY – Units under the Philippine National Police-Regional Office 6 has solved 20 cold cases from April to May 2021.
“By all means, we should not sleep on these unsolved cases in Western Visayas,” said Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, PRO 6 director.
According to the PRO 6 Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), these 20 cold cases were part of the 39 that were reopened for the two-month period.
Ten cold cases were solved each for the months of April and May for a total of 20. There are still 19 cold cases that are still under investigation.
For April, the pending cases are being handled by the Bacolod City Police Office, Capiz Provincial Police Office, Antique Police Provincial Police Office, Iloilo City Police Office, Aklan Provincial Police Office, and Guimaras Provincial Police Office.
The nine remaining cold cases for May are being handled by Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office which has four. There are also cases by Bacolod City Police Office, and Capiz Police Provincial Office.
PRO 6 allocated almost P1.5 million to solve these cold cases which are those unsolved for more than six months.
The PRO 6 hierarchy released funding to reinvestigate cold cases and boost the region’s crime solution efficiency.
Police Lt. Col. Kim Legada, assistant chief of the PRO 6 RIDMD, warned that police chiefs who requested for funding and failed to solve the cold cases can face both administrative and criminal charges.
