PNP on alert vs COVID-19 Delta variant, urges public to observe self-protection discipline

Police Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered all policemen especially those deployed to enforce quarantine rules to be on guard on the spread of the Delta variant, believed to be more transmissible than any other coronavirus disease (COVID-19) variants.

Eleazar said the key is the strict enforcement of the quarantine protocols on the part of the enforcers that include the PNP, and the discipline among the people.

"On the part of the PNP, we need to do more in enforcing the protocols against this variant. On the part of the public, what is needed is discipline aside from getting vaccinated and continue observing the minimum public health safety protocol," said Eleazar.

The Department of Health has warned the public of the COVID-19 Delta variant being “dominant” globally. According to the DOH, strict border controls must be implemented to prevent the entry of new cases of these variants to the country.

We assure the public that we will continue to do our best to protect them, especially in areas with high cases of infection," said Eleazar.

Likewise, Eleazar tasked all local police offices and units to closely coordinate with the different local government units for the strict enforcement of minimum public health safety standards and quarantine protocols.
