Super Swerte will face a tough task ahead in its quest for back-to-back championships in the P2-million Philracom Chairman’s Cup at the Metro Manila Turf Club in Malvar, Batangas on Sunday, June 20.

Champion of the Commissioner’s Cup 2021 last month, Sandy Javier’s Super Swerte will take on rival and Presidential Gold Cup 2020 winner Pangalusian Island of Wilbert Tan as well as Triple Crown 2020 king Heneral Kalentong of MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos in the 1,800-meter race.

Also vying for the second major trophy in this year’s horse racing circuit are two-time Sampaguita Stakes winner Princess Eowyn, Road to the Chairman’s Cup victor Sky Shot, the ever-dangerous Boss Emong, Shanghai Grey and Spandau Ballet.

The strong field wil duke it out for the P1.2 million top prize on top of the 40 rating points for PGC 2021 in the race organized in honor of the late Philracom chairman Andrew Sanches and for the benefit of disabled trainers and jockeys in the horse racing industry.

The runner-up will grab P400K and 30 rating points, the third placer will receive P200k and 20 rating points while the fourth will nab P100K and 10 rating points. The fifth and sixth finishers will get P60K and P40K, respectively.

Abalos said that Heneral Kalentong, which swept all three legs of the country’s Triple Crown last year, is primed for its return on the track.

“Nakahanda naman si Heneral Kalentong for this one. He’s been performing well sa mga ensayo and we can only hope for the best. Medyo mabigat pa ang laban but we’ll still do our best,” said the former mayor of Mandaluyong City.

After the Chairman’s Cup, the highly anticipated Triple Crown will get going next in July, August and September followed by the Classic Cup and Juvenile Cup in October, and the Silver Cup in November.

Capping off the busy horse racing calendar will be the prestigious Presidential Gold Cup on December 12 and the Grand Derby on December 26.
