Remembering those who serve: Okada Manila’s sweet initiative

It’s a given that with health protocols still in place, this Father’s Day will see a flurry of activities for the delivery apps and our GrabFood riders. From early morning until the evening, they would be hard at work, fulfilling deliveries, and bringing food choices to countless families who would be celebrating at home. But do you know that a lot of these GrabFood riders and delivery personnel are also fathers themselves, and it’s heartening to know that one of Okada Manila’s CSR initiatives had them specifically in mind.

Partnering with GrabFood, Okada Manila distributed gift boxes from their Lobby Lounge to four GrabFood sites in Metro Manila, namely Greenfield, Marikina, South Park, and Valenzuela. The gift boxes had an assortment of pastries they could enjoy with their respective families, and celebrate Father’s Day a few days early. It was a gesture fully appreciated by the riders, as this Sunday would find them hard at work delivering.

“GrabFood riders make sure that those of us who stay home get the meals that we need. Through their work, a lot of us are kept safe, so we’d like to show some gratitude by sharing some pastries they can enjoy with their families. It’s a small and simple way we can express our thanks,” said Okada Manila’s SVP for Premium Marketing Shirley Tam.

In response, Anton Bautista, head of deliveries for Grab Philippines, said, “Our delivery-partners render essential services for many of our kababayan, especially during these trying times. We are proud to stand with them and are committed to helping them achieve long-term success through and on our platform. This initiative with Okada Manila is an expression of our ongoing commitment to delight, support, and champion our partners. We hope that through this gesture, we are able to give our delivery-partners some additional joy and delight as they also celebrate Father’s Day with their families.”

Early this year, Okada Manila provided support to frontliners by donating UV disinfection tools to the Department of Health. The Forbes five-star integrated resort also gave essential items such as bed sheets, pillow cases, towels, and linens to the Philippine Red Cross’ isolation facilities for COVID-19 patients. It’s all part of Okada Manila’s commitment to staying relevant during these unusual times.
