BI nabs three wanted South Koreans; find out what their offense is


Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have arrested three South Korean nationals who were wanted in their country for operating illegal online gambling sites.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Cho Chang Joo, 26; Beom Dawon, 26; and Hong Changwoo, 29 were nabbed inside a condominium in San Lorenzo Village, Makati City by members of the bureau’s fugitve search unit (FSU).

The BI chief ordered their arrest upon the request of South Korean authorities, which had cancelled their passports. This made the suspects undocumented aliens.

FSU chief Bobby Raquepo said the trio is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by a district court in Busan, South Korea for illegal gambling.

“The three will be deported and included in the bureau’s blacklist to permanently ban them from returning," he added.

According to information received by the BI, the three were charged with violation of South Korea’s National Sports Promotion Act after they created gambling sites on the Internet.

If convicted, the three could serve jail terms of up to seven years.
