Garcia-led Vivant Energy Corporation and its subsidiary company Gigawatt Power Inc. have inked a 15-year power supply agreement (PSA) to supply the long-term electricity needs of Pampanga II Electric Cooperative (PELCO II).
The supply pact was forged between PELCO II and La Pampanga Energy Corporation (LPEC), the consortium of Vivant, Gigawatt Power and Amberdust Holding Corporation.
Under the deal, LPEC will be constructing a 17.28-megawatt diesel-fired power plant in Porac, Pampanga – the output of which will be supplied to PELCO II.
Based on the facility’s design, the electric generating plant will have three units of 5.76MW capacity each – and the commitment of LPEC will not just be to meet the power supply requirement of the off-taker utility but also to “maintain grid stability and security” within its franchise area.
Emil Andre M. Garcia, executive vice president and COO of Vivant Energy, noted that this venture will become “part of the recovery and growth of the province of Pampanga by providing stable and reliable power to PELCO II.”
The Pampanga power utility distributes power to Mabalacat City and the municipalities of Guagua, Lubao, Porac, Santa Rita, Sasmuan and Bacolor; as well as in the resettlement areas in Santa Lucia, Magalang; then Palmayo and Mawacat in Floridablanca.
The Vivant executive qualified that as their company expands on power generation portfolio, the facet they are also focusing on is to “provide adaptable and forward-looking solutions, not just to the electric cooperatives that are our customers, but also with the communities they serve.”
In choosing its partners, Garcia said “We choose partners who share our core values.”
Vivant Energy and its subsidiary firm also has investments in power generation in other parts of the county, including those in Puerto Princesa, Culion and Busuanga in Palawan. Both will likewise be supplying the future electricity requirements of Bantayan Island in Cebu.
Vivant has its business roots in Cebu, including its stake in Visayan Electric Company (VECO), which is the second biggest power distribution utility in the country and has been catering to the electricity services needs of greater parts of Cebu towns and cities.
