Some individuals and online stores are illegally re-selling Globe At Home WiFi modems with DITO Telecommunity stickers and passing them off as DITO modems.
Globe Telecom Inc. today (June 14) warned the public about the scam.
“This is done through the unauthorized unlocking of the Globe device, substituting the Globe SIM with a DITO Telecommunity SIM and concealing the Globe At Home trademark with a sticker of DITO,” according to the telco’s statement.
“It has come to our attention that there are so-called DITO-branded modems that are being sold online,” Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano noted, on the part of the third telco.
“The unauthorized use of the DITO branding in any form shall result in the possibility of prosecution for copyright infringement,” he stressed.
“There are no official DITO modems or pocket WIFI devices that have been launched at this time,” Tamano clarified.
“DITO cannot and will not guarantee the performance and service should our SIM cards be used in these unauthorized devices in the market today,” he added.
“We are in the process of testing compatible devices and will add to the list those that will pass our internal testing.”
DITO warned the public about overpriced, unauthorized SIM cards and DITO-branded devices sold online.
Since the third telco’s commercial launch last March 8, 2021, a number of overpriced, unauthorized DITO SIM cards, and DITO-branded modems and WIFI devices have proliferated online, especially on Facebook, including Lazada and Shopee.
The public should only buy from DITO authorized partners and resellers, Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano advised.
Similarly, Globe advised the public to buy only from legitimate Globe At Home stores, authorized dealers and online sites to ensure quality and service guarantee.
All Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi kits have pre-inserted SIMs in the modems ready for activation via the Globe At Home app or Facebook (FB) messenger upon purchase.
Globe is taking legal action against unscrupulous individuals and establishments carrying out deceptive business practices.
