RIZAL, Cagayan – A barangay councilor was arrested by the police after he fired shots at eight members of a family who were crossing a river in Barangay Anungu here Sunday.

Police Staff Sgt. Richard L. Balinnang, investigator on case, identified the suspect as Elmer Ginez, councilor of Barangay Anungu.

He was nabbed upon the complaints of John Kelvin Narag, 29; Kingpee Lozano; Mark Lozano, 18; Reynalyn Bermudez, 26; Rachelle Lozano, 20; Raquel Lozano, 17; Ricamae Lozano, 19; and Myla Lozano, all residents of Barangay Liuan here.

The family was about to cross the river in Barangay Anungu on their way home at about 4:30 p.m. when Ginez warned them not to do so since they are residents of other barangay.

Using a handgun, Ginez fired twice at the family while in the middle of the river.

The victims immediately called Barangay Liuan Captain Esteban Macuring, who, in turn, asked help from the Rizal police. Police arrested the suspect who is now detained at the Rizal police station.
