In a letter addressed to all parishes and institutions under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Manila, Fr. Sanny de Claro, director of the Human Resource Development Department of RCAM said, the bloodletting drive is “in response to the call of Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of Manila for charity and generosity in his recent Pastoral Instruction titled Your Servant is Listening.”

“The bloodletting drive will also serve as a welcome gift to Cardinal Jose F. Advincula, Archbishop-elect of Manila,” he added.

“May we request you and your relatives and friends to donate blood on June 15 to 18, and June 21 to 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to the Philippine Red Cross as a ‘Welcome Gift’ to His Eminence Jose F. Cardinal Advincula who will be installed as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila on June 24, 2021. This bloodletting activity is for the benefit of our needy brethren,” Fr. De Claro said in the letter.

Fr. De Claro said those who had been vaccinated need to wait for the 28-day interval before they could donate blood.

“Please take note that for those of you who had been vaccinated – the first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, you have to wait 28 days before you could donate blood,” the priest said.

The Archdiocese of Manila regularly conducts a bloodletting activity as a birthday gift to Archbishop Emeritus of Manila Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales and Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in Rome, His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle.
