Suspect in murder of Masbate town vice mayor nabbed in Camarines Norte


CAMP OLA, Albay – One of the suspects in the killing of the Batuan, Masbate vice mayor in Manila in 2019 was arrested by police in Camarines Norte Thursday, June 11.

Police Major Malu Calubaquib said that suspect Nelson Refermoso Cambaya, 58, acting vice mayor of Batuan, was nabbed by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 42 on April 26, 2021.

Cambaya is one of the suspects charged with murder for the killing of Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson, and frustrated murder with a bail of P200,000 for wounding Yuson’s companion.

Cambaya was arrested in Barangay Quinapagian, Mercedes, Camarines Norte after a barangay intelligence network reported the presence of the suspect in the area.

The arrest order against Cambaya was served by members of Mercedes Municipal Station, Camarines Norte 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, Camarines Norte Provincial Intelligence Unit, 503rd Camarines Norte Maritime Police Station, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Cambaya’s co-respondents in the case were Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Board Member Sandra Cam, her son Marco Martin, and four others.

Cambaya is now detained at the MercedeS Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

Yuson was shot dead by two gunmen in Sampaloc, Manila on Oct. 9, 2019 while he was having breakfast with some companions in an eatery.

One of his companions, Rufino Alforte, was seriously injured during the shooting.

Yuson was in Manila at the time of the incident to visit his brother Charlie who is a barangay official.
