A ground-breaking partnership was sealed between Universal Pictures and Filipino live-streaming platform upstream.ph.

This means that Hollywood blockbuster films such as “Jurassic Park,” “Fast and the Furious,” “Despicable Me,” “Candyman,” “Minions,” “Halloween” and “Boss Baby" can now be seen in the local live-streaming platform.

The deal will allow Universal Pictures' vast library of existing films from 2021 onwards to be part of upstream.ph's content.

Upstream executive Dondon Monteverde said that upstream.ph is being true to its word of bringing world-class content to Filipinos as an alternative to cinemas during the pandemic.

Monteverde said: “We are truly honored to be the first and only Filipino portal to be trusted by Universal Pictures to stream old and new titles from their catalog of blockbuster films. This is timely because the pandemic has certainly imposed limitations on our activities and most of us find ourselves cooped up in our homes as a safety precaution.”

Some of upstream.ph's upcoming releases from Universal: “F9,” starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Nathalie Emmanuel; “The Croods: A New Age,” starring Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds; “Let Him Go,” starring Diane Lane, Kevin Costner; and “Bios,” starring Tom Hanks.

Aside from Hollywood films, upstream.ph also makes it a point to showcase the best and brightest Filipino filmmakers through their original works under Upstream Originals.

Kim Molina is back with another comedy flick entitled “Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam.”

In the film's recent virtual media conference, Kim revealed how the role challenged her acting potential.

Kim said that she cried in front of director Daryl Yap after shooting scenes for the movie.

“I really cried in front of Direk Daryl. I never thought that I would play a role of a girl with no feelings. Honestly, I almost gave up," she added.

"Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam" is one of the most-awaited films on VivaMax, especially in the Middle East where Kim has a strong following.

Zain Mirza, co-CEO of VivaMax Middle East, said that the platform and the movie are expected to bring more Filipinos closer to home.

“Our goal is to redefine the audience viewing experience by making sure the products that we present are not your usual cinema and free TV affair. We’re seeking to advance the needle in terms of creating quality content while, at the same time, making sure that the content that we produce are truly enjoyable and binge-worthy,” Mirza said.
