Eastern Samar fisherman hangs self following COVID-19 diagnosis

TACLOBAN CITY – A 33-year-old fisherman hanged himself after he tested positive for COVID-19 last Wednesday, June 9, in Lawaan, Eastern Samar.

The victim was identified as Reynaldo Racaza, of Barangay Maslog, Lawaan.

Initial investigation disclosed that Racaza was quarantined for six days after becoming a close contact of a COVID-19 patient.

He was tested on June 8 and turned out positive for COVID-19.

Police believe that this diagnosis triggered him to end his life by hanging using a nylon cord. Lawmen saw no indication of foul play.

Barangay Maslog has been placed under community lockdown until June 24 due to a high number of cases.
