Comelec:No extension of voter registration


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is not extending the voter registration period which will end on September 30.

"I would like to emphasize that the voter registration will end on September 30," Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in a television interview Wednesday, June 9.

She added:"There will be no extension."

Last month, the poll body said it has received more than 3 million applications for voter registration for the May 2022 national and local polls.


Data released by the poll body showed 3,483,298 voter registration applications were filed from January 20, 2020 to May 15, 2021.

More than 578,000 applications were filed from January to March 2020 prior to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.


The other 2,904,347 applications were filed between September 2020 to May 2021 amid the pandemic.

As of April, the Comelec said, there are around 59 million voters registered.

During the 2019 polls, there were more than 61 million voters.
