ASG bomber killed in Basilan shootout

A suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bomber was killed in an alleged shootout in Mohammad Ajul, Basilan at dawn Saturday, June 5.

The fatality was identified as Aroy Ittot, alias “Oroy,” a top priority target of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Police Regional Office.

Combined military and police personnel were serving an arrest warrant for murder against Ittot in Barangay Languyan when he allegedly fired towards the arresting team using his M16 rifle. The lawmen retaliated, killing him.

Police recovered several high-powered firearms, ammunition, and explosive components at the scene. Ittot was allegedly part of the group that targeted Tuburan, Basilan Mayor Durie Kalahal in a 2017 roadside bombing incident.
