Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Special Traffic and Transport Zone chief Edison Bong Nebrija said the collision happened when the driver of the ambulance tried to enter the EDSA bus way coming from the regular lane and failed to see the oncoming bus.

The ambulance overturned while the bus crashed into the center island.

The driver, conductor, and six other passengers of the bus were injured. They were rushed to the Mandaluyong Medical Center.

Nebrija said one of the passengers was in critical condition.

"Kritikal sa kanilya 'yung pasahero na ... well, apparently nung pagka-hit, eh tumilapon sa labas. Inabutan namin po siya sa kalsada (One of the passengers is in critical condition after being thrown off the bus)," Nebrija said.

He added that the ambulance was not carrying any patient when the incident occurred.
