BACOLOD CITY – The mayor of Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo, in an official statement Thursday, said she tested positive for COVID-19, citing the result of her Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test conducted last June 2.

Yulo announced that her office is temporarily closed until further notice, as all her staff are currently in isolation and will undergo RT-PCR testing to protect public health.

She said that they will resume operations once the local health officer has given them the clearance.

Yulo reiterated the government’s call for everyone to take advantage of the free vaccine, as she noted that through this, everyone can be protected from the effects of the virus which includes hospitalization and even death.

“Our government has been fighting the battle with COVID-19 for more than a year already and we are almost exhausting our resources in order to protect the health of the public as well as help our citizens with this overwhelming ordeal,” she said.

But our government can only do so much if the citizens of this country refused to cooperate even in the most simplest of protocols which includes wearing of face masks, social distancing, and frequent handwashing, as well as the regulation on mass gathering, she added.

Yulo reminded everyone that the virus does not discriminate, and no amount of money can resolve this problem except the will of the people.

She urged everyone to help each other in resolving this problem that has been plaguing the nation for more than a year already.
