Fire destroys 50 houses in Taguig


A fire razed about 50 houses in Brgy. Ususan in Taguig Wednesday.

Taguig City Fire Station said the fire hit a residential area in Marcelino Compound along Cayetano Avenue at 12:52 p.m. It originated from the residence of the Lim family.

The fire which reached the second alarm was put out at 2:13 p.m.

Authorities said the fire destroyed P375,000 worth of properties and affected about 70 families or 350 individuals. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A total of 42 fire trucks responded to the fire including 17 from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Taguig, Pateros, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Pasay, Paranaque, Makati, and Mandaluyong; 17 from volunteer groups; and eight from the local government unit. Three ambulances also responded.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office-Taguig said this is the third fire in the city this year, following one in Brgy. Tanyag which affected 118 families and another in Brgy. Bagumbayan that left 13 families homeless.

It said the families affected by the Ususan fire are currently staying at Ususan Elementary School.

The Taguig City government listed all the families affected by the fire and provided them with relief goods, sleeping and hygiene kits, and anti-coronavirus disease (COVID-19) kits. It will also provide daily meals to the affected individuals. Mayor Lino Cayetano also gave financial assistance to the families.
