As gov't eases travel restrictions, PNP urges public to check LGU rules too

The Philippine National Police (PNP) advised on Wednesday, June 2, the public to check the existing rules and regulations of areas they would want to go to avoid travel hassles as authorities further eased domestic travel restrictions.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said there are some local government units that have been imposing their own guidelines in accepting visitors or tourists.

"It's really better to check first before going to the travel destination because there are local governments units which decided to keep the strict restrictions to protect their people. in most cases, they have their own websites or social media accounts to check from," said Eleazar.

He also reminded the public to continue observing the minimum public health safety standards as a precaution against COVID-19 infection. According to Eleazar, the public should not grow complacent just because travel restrictions have been eased.

But Eleazar added that police personnel will continue to enforce guidelines from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, including adjustments that have been made in view of eased restrictions, as well as local ordinances.

Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque Jr has announced that domestic travel is allowed from the NCR Plus (Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal) to areas under General Community Quarantine, provided travellers test negative for COVID-19 in an RT-PCR test.

Easing local travel restrictions is seen to help the country recover from the COVID-19 pandemic’s adverse effects.
