Muntinlupa’s total vaccinated residents reach 50,000; cops arrest face mask violators


The total number of Muntinlupa residents who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has reached 50,000.

According to the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO), as of May 29, the number of residents who have received the first dose of the vaccine totaled 50,271.

Of the total, 5,719, or 11.37 percent, belong to the A1 (health workers) priority group, 9,192, or 18.28 percent, are A2 (senior citizens), 35,312 or 70.24 percent are A3 (persons with comorbidities), and 48, or 0.095 percent, are A4 (essential workers), who are overseas Filipino workers inoculated during the Labor Day celebration last May 1.

By vaccine, 26,993, or 53.7 percent, of 50,271 were given the Sinovac Life Sciences’ CoronaVaac, 16,792, or 33.4 percent, got AstraZeneca, 3,507, or 6.97 percent, were given Pfizer-BioNTech, and 2,979, or 5.92 percent, were administered the Sputnik V.

In addition, 19,341, or 38.47 percent of the 50,271 already received the second dose of the vaccine. A total of 18,488, or 95.6 percent, were given CoronaVac.

Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa City Police have apprehended an additional 165 individuals for not wearing, or improperly wearing, face masks and face shields in the city.

The operations against violators, known as “Oplan Sita,” were conducted from May 30 to 31. Of the 165, 43 were given fines and 122 received warnings.

Muntinlupa Ordinance 2010-109 mandates that every person in the city is required to wear face masks at all times whenever outside of their residence, at the workplace, when entering government buildings and offices, and in public places.

Penalties for offenders are P300 for first offense, P500 for the second offense, and P1,000 for the third and subsequent offenses.

For violators who are minors, a stern warning will be given for the first offense, withdrawal of scholarship grant from the local government or P300 for non-grantee for the second offense, and P500 for third and subsequent offenses. The penalty fee for minors will be charged against their parents or guardians.

The Muntinlupa City government is implementing health protocols such as the mandatory wearing of face masks in compliance with the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi has reminded residents to continue following health protocols such as frequent hand-washing, wearing of face masks, and physical distancing.

“COVID-19 is still an imminent threat so I urge everyone to be responsible and to continue observing health protocols even as quarantine measures and the liquor ban are relaxed,” said Fresnedi.

Muntinlupa has seen a decrease in active COVID-19 cases from 1,036 last May 16 to 604 as of May 30.

To date, there are 12,850 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Muntinlupa including 11,903 recoveries and 343 deaths.
