PIAT, Cagayan ‒ An all-female police team is building a home for a poor family here.

The policewomen – all assigned to the Tourist Police Unit (TPU) headed by Lt. Elvira G. Tong – is constructing the house in Poblacion 2.

Having relatives as carpenters, these policewomen encountered little problem in the project that will benefit a family of six.

“Ang kaya ng lalaki, kaya din ng babae na gawin kaya ipinakita namin ang aming makakaya na makatulong sa pagtatayo ng isang maaayos na tirahan (We can do a man’s job and we have shown we can do this by building a home),” said one member of the police team.

The project was initiated by Cagayan police director Police Brig. Gen. Crizaldo O. Nieves in their effort to strengthen the relationship between the public and the police.

Providing help to the policewomen are municipal and barangay officials and other volunteers.

Lucy R. Dumaya, the beneficiary of the house, thanked the Philippine National Police (PNP) as they will now have a decent home in time for the wet season.

They slaughtered a chicken as tradition, believing it will help the house have a solid foundation.
