The national government has inaugurated a referral hospital for COVID-19 patients in Bocaue, Bulacan to strengthen the province’s response in containing the spread of the virus.

The Bocaue General Hospital, also known as Joni Villanueva Memorial Hospital, was launched Friday by the country’s National Task Force Against COVID-19 after the province was identified by the task force as among the “centers of gravity” due to its surge in virus cases.

The event was held in commemoration of the death anniversary of the town’s former mayor, Joni Villanueva, who died last year.

NTF spokesman Ted Herbosa, in his speech, said the inauguration of the facility is a “big step” for Bulacan to strengthen its capacity in treating COVID-19 patients, “especially now that the province is experiencing a rise in cases.”
