Eric Carle of 'The Very Hungry Catterpilar,' dies at 91


Parents, more so children, have read at least one book by the famous children's author Eric Carle. He's even the illustrator behind all the vivid colors that make reading his books such a wonderful experience.

GIVING HOPE. Eric Carle has written over 70 books that has inspired many children to reach for their dreams.

Last May 23, Sunday, Carle passed away quietly in his home with his loved ones. Posted on his official Instagram account, his team shared the sad news, "It is with heavy hearts that we share that Eric Carle, author and illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and many other beloved classics, passed away on Sunday, May 23rd at the age of 91."

Publishing over 70 books and selling more than 170 million copies in different languages, Carle believed that the reason why The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a favorite is because, "I think it is a book of hope. Children need hope. You, little insignificant caterpillar can grow up into a beautiful butterfly and fly into the world with your talent."

The world is a better place because of his books. May he rest in peace.
