PINOY PRIDE : Why we are going gaga over 'Trese'

The graphic novel series created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo will hit Netflix soon and we can't wait.

Why?

Pinoy pride!

Note that there will be two versions, one in English and another in Filipino.

The English version is notable in that it features Hollywood stars with Filipino blood voicing the characters.

In there, Filipino-Canadian actress Shay Mitchell of "Pretty Little Liars" fame, will voice the titular character, Alexandra Trese.

Filipino-American actor Darren Criss ("Glee," “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”), on the other hand, lends his voice to Marco.

Stage great Jon Jon Briones voices the characters of Hank and Xa-Mul.

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, lends her voice to Miranda Trese, the mother of Alexandra.

Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto, known most for his work on “The Good Place,” is giving life to Maliksi.

Then there's Philippine-born American actor Lou Diamond Phillips of "La Bamba" fame, who will voice the character of Mayor Sancho Santamaria.

Filipino-American actor Dante Basco ("Hook," “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “American Dragon: Jake Long”), is also part of the series as the voice of Bagyon Kulimlim.

Meanwhile, the Filipino version of the series, will be headlined by Liza Soberano as Alexandra Trese.

She is joined by Simon dela Cruz as Crispin and Basilio, Apollo Abraham as Captain Guerrero, Christopher Carlo Caling as Hank, Christian Velarde as Nuno, and Eugene Adalia as Anton Trese.

The series will also feature an original song, "Paagi” by Filipino band UDD.
