COVID ward opens in Guimaras
ILOILO CITY — While cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are still manageable in the small island province of Guimaras, the first ward that caters to COVID-19 patients has opened.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin led the May 18 opening of the COVID-19 ward at Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH) in the capital town of Jordan.
“This is for our COVID-19 patients who have moderate symptoms,” said Gumarin, who is a doctor by profession.
Gumarin explained that the opening of DCGNPH’s COVID-19 ward is the latest improvement in the provincial government’s programs in battling COVID-19.
“We started with the primary quarantine facility (PQF) and the advance quarantine facility (AQF). Finally, we have the COVID-19 isolation ward for the patients,” Gumarin added.
Dr. Bobby Yoro, DCGNPH chief of hospital, said the COVID-19 ward has 10 rooms with 20 bed capacity.
The COVID-19 isolation ward was pushed by Dr. JC Rahman Nava, a former governor and a medical consultant at DCGNPH.
As of May 18, the Department of Health Western Visayas (DOH-6) recorded 59 active cases in Guimaras.
