Deputy town police chief in Tarlac dies of COVID

A police lieutenant designated as deputy police chief of a town in Tarlac is the latest fatality of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The 48-year old police official was the 62nd in the COVID-19 death toll of the PNP, according to PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronnie Olay.

Olay said the police officer tested positive for coronavirus on May 5 and was immediately taken to an isolation facility.

On May 10, he experienced difficulty of breathing and immediately transferred to a nearby hospital. He died on May 16 due to pneumonia.

Based on the PNP data, a total of 22,207 PNP personnel have been infected by the coronavirus since last year. Almost of those infected were able to recover.

Currently, there are 1,282 active cases in the PNP.
