Two Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) militants were killed during a clash with government troops Sunday morning.
Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Commander, said soldiers of Joint Task Force Central were conducting military operations in Barangay Mao, Datu Paglas, Maguindanao at around 6am when they encountered members from the BIFF- Karialan faction led by Mohiden Animbang.
The rebels scampered off after a ten-minute firefight.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Joint Task Force Central commander, said the bodies of two rebels were recovered at the encounter site.  There were no casualties reported among the soldiers.
Troops also recovered two foxholes reportedly dug by the BIFF, ammunition and personal belongings.
Uy has directed the troops to establish blockades to intercept the rebels.
This is the first clash between government troops and the BIFFs after the latter attempted to take over Datu Paglas town on May 8.
