LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Albay Power and Energy Corp. (APEC) confirmed Saturday, May 15, that power in the entire municipality of Rapu-Rapu and Batan Island were completely shut down due to unpaid bills.

Lesley Capuz, APEC spokesperson, said that the shutdown was conducted around 12:18 p.m.  after delinquent customers failed to pay arrearages amounting to P15 million out of P32 million arrearages in six years.

“Please be informed that power services to the entire municipality of Rapu-Rapu were completely shut down 12:18 noon today, May 15, 2021. Power services to Barangay Batan of the same town were earlier shut down at 12:00 noon,” Capuz said.

Capuz explained that only 658 out of 1,700 delinquent customers paid their bills – some are full payments but some are partial.

“2018 pa kami nag “raise flag,” ibig sabihin nag-warning na kami sa kanila. Hindi kami nagkulang to remind them about the unsettled bills,” he said.

He said that these 658 customers only paid their bills after APEC seriously announced that power will be shut down, if the arrears amounting to P15 million will not be settled on May 15, 2021.
