Police identified the victim as Irvi Ramos, 64, of Barangay Haguimit.

Police Lt. Col. Jonel Guadalupe, La Carlota City police chief, said the victim was walking on his way home from a “sari-sari” (community convenience) store, along with his nephew, when an unidentified man appeared and shot Ramos at close range.

Guadalupe said the victim’s nephew was unharmed as he was able to run and hide.

He said the victim sustained four bullet wounds in his abdomen, thigh, and chest. Ramos was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Guadalupe said the perpetrator, who was wearing a bonnet, waited for the victim to pass by the area and kill Ramos.

Police recovered from the crime scene three fired cartridge cases of .45 caliber, fired cartridge cases, and a deformed fired bullet.

Guadalupe said the victim had no threats prior to the killing. He was also not involved in any illegal activity.

Guadalupe said they have yet to establish a motive, but they already have a person of interest.
