CEBU CITY—Packs of suspected shabu that were reportedly smuggled from Palawan to Cebu were seized from two suspected drug pushers here Monday.

Rhey Mark Padilla Bughao and Ranilo Portogaliza del Mar of Barangay Lahug here were arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by operatives of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

The two men yielded one big pack and 21 sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P686,800, said Police Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations.

Parilla said the two men disclosed that that the illegal drugs came from Palawan and were smuggled to Cebu through fishing vessels that usually dock at Pasil Fish Port in Barangay Pasil here.

The two men denied they were drug pushers, claiming that they were just hired to deliver the contraband to their intended recipients, Parilla said.

Police however stressed that Bughao is in the Regional Level Watchlist of Top Drug Personalities.

“We have been closely monitoring his activities but we were not able to immediately arrest him because he transferred from one to another to avoid detection,” said Parilla.

Bughao was allegedly capable of selling 100 grams of shabu in a day.

Parilla said the police are conducting follow-up investigations to possibly identify the two men’s cohorts in the illegal drugs trade.
