ILOILO CITY – For the first four months of 2021, cops under Police Regional Office (PRO-6) were able to confiscate more than P55 million worth of illegal drugs in Western Visayas region.
Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, PRO-6 director, noted there was even an increase in the drug haul by P10.3 million. In comparison, only P44.72 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated for the same period of last year.
The more than P55-million worth of shabu (crystal meth) and marijuana were from 662 anti-drug operations conducted by police units in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
The Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office had the biggest haul with drugs worth P21.1 million. It is followed by Bacolod City Police Office with P15 million worth of illegal drugs.
Drugs worth P13 million were also confiscated by Iloilo Police Provincial Office, P3.4 million by Iloilo City Police Office; P2.2 million by Capiz Provincial Office; P45,500 by Guimaras Police Provincial Office; P28,920 by Aklan Police Provincial Office; and P20,500 by Antique Police Provincial Office.
Despite the threats posed by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Miranda assured there will be no let-up in the anti-drug campaign in Western Visayas.
