The Parañaque City Police said that it continues to be strict in implementing safety protocols to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) such as the proper wearing of face masks.

This was after Pres. Duterte warned that anyone caught not properly wearing their face mask in public may face arrest and detention for nine hours at the police station.

“Very strict po tayo dito sa Parañaque. Iyong mga ‘di [nagsusuot] ng face mask dito ay pine-penalize po natin, binibigyan natin ng citation ticket (We are very strict here in Parañaque. Violators who do not wear face masks are penalized and given citation tickets),” Parañaque City Police Chief Col. Maximo Sebastian Jr. said.

In addition, he said that they also conducted distribution of face masks to different areas in the city, so that people would have no excuse not to wear one.

The Parañaque City Police distributed over 30,000 face masks to residents of the city, according to Sebastian.

“Iyon talagang incorrigible talaga iyon po ‘yung i-aaccost po natin (Those violators who are really incorrigible will then be accosted),” he said.

Meanwhile, the police chief urged Parañaque residents to stay at home if they have no important engagements to attend to outside.

In the latest update of the Parañaque City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) as of 6:47 p.m. on Sunday (May 9), the city logged a total of 849 active COVID-19 cases with 63 tagged as new cases.
