Miss Philippines Rabiya Mateo and other candidates are making a good impression at the 69th Miss Universe Competition ongoing in Hollywood, Florida.

This was revealed by Olivia Quido-Co, CEO and Founder of O Skin Med Spa in Los Angeles, California, the official skin care partner of the 69th Miss Universe Competition, during a Zoom interview on Saturday, May 8. Quido-Co had a chance to talk to Rabiya and the rest of the international beauty queens for the prestigious pageant.

“Noong kasama ko siya on-and-off the camera, mararamdaman mo na mabait siyang bata at malalaman mo yung mga pangarap niya sa buhay. Kung magkuwento siya from the heart. (When we were together, you can feel that she’s a nice girl, and she has big dreams).

“Isa pa sa tumatak sa akin sa ngayon ay si Miss Belize (Iris Salguero) Maliit lang siya na country pero kung magkuwento talaga siya galing sa puso. She’s very authentic and very transparent,” fhe skin expert added. (Another girl who made a good impression was Miss Belize. She comes from a small country, but she talks, it’s from the heart).

“Gusto ko rin maging kaibigan si Miss Australia (Maria Thattil) kasi sobrang kikay. She’s very funny. Parang lagi siyang masaya. She’s very smart pero gusto niyang comment ng mga tao na she’s funny. She loves to be with people who are fun. (Miss Australia would make a good companion because she’s so funny. She looks happy all the time. She’s happy when people comment on her social media posts that she’s funny).

“Grabe si Miss Thailand (Amanda Obdam). Sobrang dami ng nanonood sa kanya. Ang dami niyang fans. Kung nasaan siya, sinsundan siya. Halimbawa, nasa Facebook siya, andun din yung mga fans niya. Super ganda niya. (Miss Thailand has so many fans. And her fans follow her in social media. If she’s on Facebook, her fans would watch her. She’s also beautiful).

“Nakakaiyak din ang story ni Miss Canada (Nona Stevens) na matagal siyang nawalay sa magulang niya mula ng bata pa. Finally, nagreunion sila bago siya pumunta ng Florida. Napakaganda rin ng idea ni Miss Canada na dapat kahit anong lahi, matuto tayong rumespeto,” Quido-Co said. (The story of Miss Canada makes me cry. She was separated from her parents when she was a little girl. Finally, they reunited a few weeks before she flew to Florida. I also like the idea of Miss Canada that we should respect people regardless of color and race).

“Si Miss Singapore (Bernadette Belle Ong) nagulat ako dahil ang galing niyang mag-Tagalog. Pinanganak naman kasi siya sa PIlipinas pero lumaki na siya sa Singapore,” she said. (I was surprised with Miss Singapore because she can talk in Tagalog fluently. She was born in the Philippines, but she grew up in Singapore).

Quido-Co said that she will fly to Florida on May 9 in preparation for her special talk with all the 74 candidates of the Miss Universe contest on May 12 in which pageant organizers would call the event as “Beauty Day.” There, she will discuss proper skin care with the girls.

The Chinese-Filipino skin expert also said that the new Miss Universe will receive a one-year prize package from O Skin Med Spa.

Miss Colombia Laura Olascuaga

O Skin Med Spa has been the medical spa of choice among Filipino beauty queens; from Shamcey Supsup (Miss Universe 2011, 3rd Runner-up), Janine Tugonon (Miss Universe 2012, 1st Runner-up), Ariela Arida (Miss Universe 2013, 3rd Runner-up), to Megan Young (Miss World 2013) and Pia Wurtzbach (Miss Universe 2015).

Earlier, Quido-Co shared the strict safety protocols at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Florida where the 69th Miss Universe Competition will be held on May 16 (May 17 in Manila). “All ticket holders will under swab tests. It is stated in the tickets. The seating capacity has also been very limited.”

This is the second year in a row that O Skin Spa has been chosen to take care of the skin of the candidates competing in Miss Universe.

“It’s truly an honor to be the skin care partner of Miss Universe beauty pageant. I am excited to meet all the candidates in this year’s competition,” she said.

Quido-Co said that Rabiya, Miss El Salvador Vanessa Velasquez, and Miss Colombia Laura Olascuaga have visited the spa for sponsor shoot and pampering. “Miss Colombia flew from Bogota just to join our skin spa event. After two days, she went back to Colombia.”

All the candidates for Miss Universe entered the “bubble” for the competition last May 6 and 7.
