Defending champion Bren Esports bucked the absence of its coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro as it swept Work Auster Force anew, 2-0, to keep its MPL Philippines Season 7 Playoffs upper bracket dream alive on Saturday night, May 8.

M2 Grand Finals MVP Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno on Granger and captain Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel on Selena spearheaded the world champions’ surgical 16-2 romp over their previous scrim partners in the 18-minute Game 1.

KarlTzy served as the heavy damage dealer as he hit a 7-1-2 kill-death-assist record while Pheww threw sneaky Abyssal Arrows to set up pickoffs for seven assists on top of three kills.

It was veteran tank Allan “Lusty” Castromayor’s turn to step up in Game 2 as he came through with crucial initiations through his Chou.

Lusty kept Work at bay near the Luminous Lord pit that eventually enabled Bren to score a 4-for-1 exchange and close out the 21-15 win in 22 minutes.

Lusty later bared in the post-match interview that coach Duckey was attending a wedding ceremony as sixth man EJ “Ejhay” Sambrano and Pheww took the task of keeping the team intact.

With its repeat sweep over Work, Bren climbed to solo third in Group A with 18 points on a 6-5 series record. More importantly, the M2 world winner remained on the hunt for an upper bracket spot.

Work failed to capitalize on its chance to take the solo lead and solidify its upper bracket bid as it stayed on joint leadership with Aura PH via its 21 points on a 7-5 slate.
