San Pablo, Laguna bakers pay early Mother's Day tribute to moms through a cake community pantry

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna - Local bakers here held a cake community pantry in Barangay San Francisco Calihan on Thursday (May 6) in early celebration of Mother's Day.

Bakeology Eats & Treats owners Givelyn Virrey and Globelle Cadague told the Manila Bulletin that organizing the community pantry was their way to make mothers feel special, especially those who may not have extra money to spend for a celebration.

The stall offered three round cakes, 30 cupcakes, and 240 pieces of chocolate crinkles. On the stall were signs that read, "Isang maagang pagpupugay sa mga dakilang ina (An early salute to great mothers)" and a humorous "Kumuha nang naaayon sa taas ng blood sugar (Take according to your blood sugar level)."

According to Virrey, they couldn't help but notice that even on Mother's Day, their special day, mothers still think about their children first.

"'Yung isang mother na may apat na anak, sabi nya gusto nya kumuha para sa mga anak nya (One mother had four kids, she said she wanted to take some sweets for her kids)," Virrey told the Manila Bulletin.

"Imbes na isipin nya na kumuha siya para sa sarili nya, 'yung apat na mga anak pa rin nya ang inisip nya (Instead of taking some for herself, he thought of her four children first)."
