In an interview, the prelate said Eleazar deserves the post as he is a good cop.

"I am just happy for his nomination because he is a good cop and I know he can lead the thousands strong policemen in the country," said Florencio.

"There might be some lapses in his past as we know for the reports but by the looks of it he deserves the post now," he added.

Florencio thanked President Duterte for entrusting Eleazar with the position.

"We just thank the President for his trust and confidence on Sir Eleazar because at this point in time it's not that easy to be the top cop," he said.

"Problems here and there are just complicated and we hope he can make things better," added Florencio.

Malacanang announced the appointment of Eleazar Wednesday, May 5. He will replace PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas who will retire on May 8.
