Getting around in the new normal is a challenge to say the least. Public transport may still not be up to capacity. Electric kick scooters and bikes require regular charging. So how about an automatic scooter?
Honda wants to solve the public’s transportation woes with its easy, affordable, and multi-purpose model the all-new Dio automatic scooter.
This is one of Honda’s most affordable ways to get around yet, priced at just P49,900. It’s P17,000 less than its original entry-level model, the BeAT, which is priced at P66,900. The Dio hopes to be many Filipinos’ new daily ride with its durable, multi-purpose design.
This runabout is powered by an air-cooled, 109 cc, four-stroke single overhead cam (SOHC) carburetor engine that produces 8-PS (5.89kW) at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 8.91-Nm at 5000 rpm. It’s paired with a V-belt automatic for easy use. The Dio can be started electrically or via a conventional kickstart.
It has a 5.3-liter fuel tank capacity. Honda claims it’s capable of achieving 58.3 km/l average fuel consumption (at 40 km/h). That gives it a theoretical range of 309 kilometers on one full tank.
It rides on a bottom link front shock system and a mono-shock in the rear. Touching the ground are 10-inch steel wheels with tubeless tires. Bringing it to a stop are drum brakes in the front and rear, paired with Honda’s Combi-brake system that applies the front and rear brake simultaneously with one lever.
The rider gets a wide dual gauge meter panel with a speedometer and fuel gauge. On the front shield is a secure key shutter and seat release button. It also features an LED headlight and position light to make it easy to spot at night.
Under the seat itself a 14.4-liter utility box for storing items. Honda has also included a front hook and a retractable rear hook to carry shopping bags or grocery bags.
“As the latest addition to our motorcycle offerings, the all-new Dio is our way of helping everyone face today’s everyday challenges. People will surely love it because, with this multi-purpose scooter, they can always seize the day,” said HPI President, Susumu Mitsuishi.
The all-new DIO will be available in all Honda Dealerships nationwide starting this May 2021 with a Suggested Retail Price of P49,900. It’s available in three colors: Candy Jazzy Blue, Sports Red, and Vibrant Orange.
