ILOILO CITY – Over the past year, 84 communities in Western Visayas and Central Visayas have been cleared from the influence of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing of the New People’s Army (NPA).
“This will further lead to the complete resolution of socio-economic issues and sustained developmental projects that can uplift the living condition of our people,” said Major General Eric Vinoya, commander of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).
Vinoya noted the gain against the fight to curb communist insurgency during 3ID’s 47th founding anniversary at its headquarters in Camp Peralta in Jamindan town, Capiz province.
“We were able to dismantle two guerilla fronts and another would soon be dismantled. We were able to induce numerous surrenders from both guerilla members and supporters of the CPP-NPA,” added Vinoya.
Despite the threat of coronavirus disease, Vinoya noted that several key NPA leaders were captured in joint operations with units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) over the past year.
From January to April 28, to conduct 57 operations that resulted in the killing of 15 NPA rebels, capturing two NPA rebels and seizing 24 firearms in the islands Negros, Panay, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor.
