DOTr Asec. Mark Pastor said civil works for the entire network of bike lanes in Metro Cebu is already 66 percent complete.
“We’re aiming for the entire network to be completed this May 31,” said Pastor in press briefing Thursday.
Metro Cebu’s bike lane network covers Talisay, Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade on Thursday led the inspection of the 2.3-kilometer bike lane at the South Coastal Road (CSCR) in South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City.
While there bike lanes have already been put up in various areas in Metro Cebu, more work will be done to ensure that they will be effective, including the installing of safety lights and widening the lanes.
In a statement, the DOTr said the bike lane found in SRP is classified as a Class 1 bike lane with a width of five meters. It also has a three-kilometer pedestrian sidewalk separated from the bike lane, a shed for bike racks and benches, and solar studs that light up during nighttime to guide bikers.
“Additionally, the section also has planters for the provision of greeneries and trees that will be planted along the bike path to give cyclists a comfortable ride,” The DOTr statement said.
