President Duterte has appointed Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) due to his integrity, professionalism, and dedication, Malacañang announced Wednesday.
Eleazar will take the place of PNP Chief Gen. Debold Sinas, who will retire on May 8. Prior to his appointment, Eleazar served as the PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, the second highest police post in the country.
According to Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, Eleazar is expected to sustain the reforms in the PNP when he takes the helm of the police force.
“We confirm that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed the appointment of PLTGEN Guillermo Eleazar as the new chief of the Philippine National Police,” Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement Wednesday.
“Gen. Eleazar’s track record of professionalism, dedication and integrity speaks for itself. We are therefore confident that he will continue the reform initiatives of his predecessors and lead the police organization to greater heights. All the best to Gen. Eleazar as the new PNP Chief,” he added.
Eleazar, a member of the Philippine Military Class of 1987, previously served as head of the National Capital Region Police Office. He is set to retire on November 2021.
