Navotas City reports highest decrease in new COVID-19 cases in NCR

Navotas City has reported the biggest number of decrease in terms of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections among all cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) last week.

Citing report from OCTA Research Team, the local government said its daily attack range plunged to -76 percent after logging 33 new cases from April 25 to May 1, the lowest among all Metro cities.

Last week's data was significant as the city once reported 137 new cases at its peak.

"We attribute this milestone to the hard work of all our frontliners as well as the aggressive contact tracing, testing, isolation, treatment and monitoring of our patients--from the time they become close contacts to the time we receive their test results or they complete their isolation period," Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Tiangco also said fewer residents have been contracting the virus since the local government implemented the use of quarantine-band system starting last week of March to track those suspected and confirmed cases.

"This goes to that adherence to safety protocols plays a crucial part in bringing down the number of our COVID cases. We should continue to be careful and vigilant so all of our sacrifices will not go to waste," the mayor said.

As of Sunday, May 2, Navotas only has 428 active cases—an apparent development on controlling the city's COVID-19 surge, particularly when it hit its highest 1,456 active cases on April 5.
