Ex-GAB chief Domeng Cepeda passes away

Former Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Dominador “Domeng” Cepeda passed away on Saturday, May 1.

He was 86.

GAB, now led by Chairman Baham Mitra, paid tribute to Cepeda in a social media post, thanking all his efforts as the government agency’s top official from 1994 to July 2001 under President Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada.

“We recognize his efforts and invaluable contributions to the growth of professional sports in the Philippines. He is truly an inspiration and his memory will live on forever. Rest in Christ’s love, Chairman Domeng,” Mitra said in a statement.

Cepeda has represented the country in different international boxing bodies such as the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Association (WBA).

It was during his tenure that the WBC seminar was held in Manila in 1996.

He was also elected President of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPFB) and became the WBC Asia Legal Counsel in 2001.

He also served briefly as commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission during the time of former Manila Mayor Mel Lopez.
