The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) mourned Sunday, May 2, the death of former Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) executive director Dr. Patricio S. Faylon.

"We mourn the passing of Dr. Pat Faylon , former executive director of DOST- PCAARRD. When I was first seconded by UP (University of Philippines) to DOST (then National Science & Technology Authority or NSTA) as OIC (officer-in-charge) Head of its Planning Service in 1982 the first person I came to know from PCAARRD was Dr. Pat Faylon,” de la Peña said in a statement.

The DOST chief recalled that he asked Faylon to apprise him of the research on goats, particularly on raising Anglonubian goats in the country.

"He was then also a young research coordinator for livestock at PCAARRD (then PCARR). I saw him rise through the ranks in my succeeding secondments to DOST from UP. By the time I was undersecretary he already headed PCARRD as Executive Director,” he said.

De la Peña cited that Faylon "had led the formation of partnerships of PCARRD with its international counterparts and saw its transition into the new PCAARRD which already included the aquatic, fisheries and marine sciences sector.”

"Dr. Faylon also saw the further strengthening of PCAARRD human resources during his term. We will miss Dr Faylon. We pray for his eternal rest,” he added.

In a Facebook post, the PCAARRD said it deeply mourned Faylon’s passing.

It said before leading the Council, Faylon led the Livestock Research Division as its director and served as deputy executive director for Research and Development (R&D)

"The Faylon family fully appreciates gestures of condolences but wishes to receive prayers in lieu of flowers,” it said.
