P59-M marijuana seized in Kalinga


TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Three big marijuana plantations were discovered while fully grown marijuana plants, dried marijuana leaves, and stalks worth P59 million were destroyed in a two-day eradication operation in Barangay Loccong, Tinglayan, this province.

Kalinga police chief Police Col. Davy Limmong said joint operatives of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and Naval Forces Northern Luzon, acting on information that there are three huge marijuana plantations in the area, conducted a two-day eradication operation from April 21 to 22 dubbed “Oplan: Jolly Green/India.”

Limmong said in Site 1, 24,000 fully grown marijuana plants worth P4.8 million planted in a 3,000- square meter lot were discovered.

Site 2 yielded 100,000 fully-grown marijuana plants in a 10,000- square meter lot worth P20 million.

He also said operating troops discovered in the area bricks of dried marijuana leaves weighing 270,000 grams placed in three sacks and one sack containing marijuana dried stalks weighing 10,000 grams worth P33.6 million.

In Site 3, 4,800 fully grown marijuana plants planted in 600-square meter lot worth P960,000 were found.

Limmong said all in all, the operation netted 128,800 fully grown marijuana plants planted in a 13,600-square meter land, 270,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves placed in seven sacks, and dried marijuana stalks wrapped inside a blue canvas weighing 10,000 grams with an overall total of P59,360,000.

The marijuana eradication was documented at the area of operation and later uprooted and burned onsite. Efforts were exerted to arrest or identify the cultivators but turned out negative.
