Gilas to face S. Korea twice as FIBA reveals Clark bubble schedule


The schedule of Gilas Pilipinas and eight other countries that will see action in the third and final window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in Clark, Pampanga was released Friday, April 23.

Gilas is scheduled to take on rival South Korea on June 16 and 20 while sandwiched in those dates is a match opposite Southeast Asian neighbor and Asia Cup host Indonesia on the 19th.

Other games in Group A pit Thailand against South Korea on June 19 and Indonesia the following day.

Also to be played in Pampanga are some games in Group B and C as part of the schedule which FIBA hopes will finally push through after repeated postponements of the continental qualifiers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Group B will see China taking on Japan twice on June 16 and 19 and a pair of meetings with Taiwan on June 17 and 20 while Japan and Taiwan square off on June 18.

Only two countries are going to Clark to resume their campaigns with Guam and Hong Kong playing two games against each other on June 16 and 18.

FIBA has yet to determine the schedule of other countries in Group B and C, namely Malaysia, 2017 Asia Cup winner Australia and New Zealand.

Other games of the qualifiers are going to be held in Amman, Jordan with Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Qatar composing Group E and Kazakhstan, Palestine, Syria and host Jordan being in Group F.

Three countries have already clinched spots in the Asia Cup slated Aug. 12 to 28 in Jakarta, namely host Indonesia and Group D teams Lebanon and Bahrain.

The top two countries per group advance to the Asia Cup while the six third place teams will be divided into two groups to play a single-round tourney from Aug. 12 to 14 in the Indonesian capital to determine the remaining four slots.
