DOH logs 8,719 new COVID-19 cases


The total number of coronavirus disease cases (COVID-19) in the country rose to 979,740 on Friday, April 23 with the addition of 8,719 new cases.

The case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH) also showed 13,812 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 860,412.

The number of deaths also rose to 16,529 with the addition of 159 new deaths.

Data from the DOH also showed 102,799 active cases, of which 96.4 percent were mild, 1.3 percent were asymptomatic, 0.7 percent critical, 0.9 percent severe, and 0.58 percent moderate.

The DOH said 28 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 14 of these were recoveries.

"Moreover, 77 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation," it said.

The Health department said one lab was not operational on April 21, 2021 while 6 labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
