A hospital employee in Italy was arrested after allegedly skipping work for 15 years.
The 67-year-old employee is now facing charges of abuse of office, forgery, and aggravated extortion, according to a report by The Guardian.
He was reportedly paid €538,000 (£464,000) in total despite not showing up for work at Pugliese Ciaccio hospital in the Calabrian city of Catanzaro since 2005.
Six managers at the hospital are now also being investigated in connection with the alleged absenteeism and fraud, the report said.
Authorities said the man reportedly made threats against a hospital director in 2005 to prevent her from reporting his absences and avoid disciplinary actions.
After the director retired, police said the man’s attendance was never checked by the human resources department or the director’s successor.
